Birtley is a UK manufacturer of steel lintels used within masonry construction. Lintels are structural components that support the weight of brickwork or blockwork above an opening. Without a lintel, masonry above doors and windows would not be able to span the opening safely.

Steel lintels are commonly used in cavity wall construction because they can support both the outer brick leaf and the inner block leaf while accommodating the cavity between them. This makes them suitable for many typical residential wall constructions.
