Description
General Information:
- Intended use: Intended to be used for solid double leaf walls and 100mm facing bricks.
- Hot-dip galvanisation: Undergoes Birtleys super galv galvanisation providing a 50% thicker finish than competing products, increasing the products lifespan.
- Weight capacity: Heavy duty load bearing capabilities (check table below).
- Fire safety: When finished with two coats of plaster this lintel achieves a 60-minute rating.
- Size range: Available from 750-4800mm.
Inner and outer leafs must be suitably tied.
The Birtley DC is designed for installation between two layers of a solid wall. As an ideal I shaped load bearer for external structures, the DC200 is primarily used in instances where both sides of a wall are seen, namely outside passageways between buildings. The slim profile of the DC lintel sits concealed between leafs, unbeknownst to passersby.
Materials
Designed from construction grade S275JR steel, the DC200 is a heavier duty solution to load bearing then its predecessor, the OB190. Designed with heavy duty thickness, the Birtley DC is ready to bear heavy loads. Additionally, the DC undergoes Birtleys post-fabrication super galv coating, resulting in a 50% thicker layer of zinc than offered by alternative lintels in the market.
Installation and usage
The lintel should be installed on a bed of bricklaying mortar in between two layered walls, leaving an end bearing of 150mm. Proper installation requires the inner and outer leaf being suitably tied for full utility.
Energy efficiency and sustainability
The Birtley DC200 requires minimal material in order to be manufactured. In addition, the production of concrete lintels, globally producing more carbon emissions than steel lintels, makes the DC200 an even more eco-friendly purchase.
Fire performance
Tested to BS 476:Part 20: 1987 standards, finishing the DC200 with two-coats of plaster provides a 60-minute resistance in the event of a fire.
