Inner and outer leafs must be suitably tied.

The Birtley OB, designed for double-layer solid walls, is ideal for external structures and is predominantly used when both sides of the walls are seen i.e outside passageways between buildings. The OBs T shaped, slim profile sits unseen in between leafs, in the middle of walls. 

Materials

Crafted from S275JR steel to a standard thickness, the Birtley OB provides fair faced brick with a strong, slim profile ideal for use in external structures able to bear standard loads. The lintel also undergoes Birtleys post-fabrication super galv, providing a 50% thicker-than-ordinary zinc coating leaving no surface with inferior paint or rust protection.

Installation and usage

Made to sit between brick work, this lintel works well for supporting walls where both faces are visible. Proper installation requires the lintel being on a bed of bricklaying mortar, with a 150mm end bearing minimum. For safe and optimal functionality, both the inner and outer leaf must be suitably tied.

Fire performance

Finishing this lintel with two coats of plaster provides this product with a 60-minute fire rating, in line with BS 476:Part 20: 1987 standards.
