Made for 100mm masonry bricks and blocks, the SBL200s shape provides impressive strength, with the box taking the weight on the inner leaf allowing the plate to take the lighter weight of the outer leaf. Materials

Crafted from robust S275JR steel, the Birtley SBL provides medium duty thickness and remains high in strength, increased further by its unique box shape. Additionally, the SBL is treated with Birtleys super galv coating post fabrication increasing the lintels resistive qualities and lifespan. The inner face and bottom of the lintel also feature plaster key indentations, promoting plaster adherence and leaving a smooth finish.

Installation and usage

Correct installation of the SBL requires being deposited on a bed of bricklaying mortar leaving an end bearing of 150mm. Also, it is ideal for usage with 100mm masonry bricks and blocks both externally and internally. Finally, for optimal functionality, both the inner and outer leaf must be suitably tied.

Energy efficiency and sustainability

The Birtley SBL is a more sustainable option than that of alternative concrete lintels. Concrete lintels are, globally, more harmful to the environment due to its cement contents, making the SBL steel lintel a safer option.

Fire performance

Finishing with two-coats of plaster provides this lintel with 60 minutes of fire resistance when tested to the BS 476:Part 20: 1987 standards, archives compliance and with building codes.
