Description
- Intended use: Designed to be used for solid, double leaf walls and for 100mm bricks and blocks.
- Hot-dip galvanisation: Undergoes Birtleys super galv galvanisation providing a 50% thicker finish than competing products, increasing the products lifespan.
- Weight capacity: Heavy duty thickness, capable of heavy load-bearing (check table below).
- Fire safety: Achieves a 60-minute fire rating when finished with two coats of plaster.
- Plaster key: The inner and bottom face feature plaster key indentations.
- Size range: Available from 750-5100mm.
Inner and outer leafs must be suitably tied.
Made to take more weight and to have a higher profile than the standard SBL, the SBLHD sits one course higher and promotes both strength and resilience. Despite the aforesaid, the SBLHD combines functionality, sustainability and cost effectiveness making Birtley lintels a necessary addition to construction projects.
Materials
Constructed from quality S275JR steel, the SBLHD offers profound strength. The box shape is what allows the bulk of weight to be supported on the inner leaf, while the plate takes the lighter weight of the outer leaf. Combining this with Birtleys post-fabrication super galv hot-dip galvanisation, the lintel has increased life expectancy and load bearing capabilities. The SBLHD lintel also possesses plaster key indentations on both the inner face and bottom to aid plaster adherence, providing a positive aesthetic finish.
Installation and usage
Designed for solid walls with two layers, the SBLHD is ideal for use with 100mm masonry, on both external facing and internal bricks. The lintel is to be installed on a bed of bricklaying mortar leaving a 150mm end bearing with the inner and outer leaf suitably tied.
Energy efficiency and sustainability
Globally, steel is less of a pollutant than concrete due to its cement contents. This, coupled with the fact that steel is recyclable makes it a more sustainable construction choice.
Fire performance
When finished with two coats of plaster, the lintel achieves a 60-minute fire rating in compliance with BS 476:Part 20: 1987 standards.
