Description
General Information:
- Intended use: Intended to be used in solid internal walls, or the inner leaf of a cavity wall. Designed for 100mm bricks and blocks.
Ideal for a split lintel set up when paired with an L shaped lintel.
- Hot-Dip Galvanisation Process: Galvanised post-fabrication to create a thicker coating of zinc.
- Weight Capacity: Standard duty solid wall box lintel for 100mm block work, rated for regular loads (check table below).
- Thermal Efficiency: Optional factory-fitted BREEAM A+ insulation to aid heat retention.
- Fire Safety: Finishing in a two-coat layer of plaster provides this lintel with a 60 minute fire safety rating.
- Plaster Key: Three sides of the solid wall box lintel possess a plaster key, aiding a smooth finish in many configurations.
- Size range: Available from 750mm – 4200mm.
Made for single skin internal walls, the Birtley SB range of box lintels are fit for a variety of applications such as internal doorways, garages or supporting load bearing walls allowing the creation of an open floor plan. The box geometry, combined with professional engineering provides robust long-lasting support and an aesthetic finish.
Materials
The Birtley SB range produces quality lintels, composed of S275JR steel finished to EN10025-2 standard. Furthermore, the SB100 undergoes a post-fabrication hot-dip galvanisation resulting in a thicker coat of zinc, leaving no surface with inferior paint protection ultimately extending its life.
Installation and usage
The Birtley SB100 was designed with functionality in mind; an affordable steel solid wall lintel that competes well with other steel garage lintels in the market. Proper use requires placement in solid internal walls, or for cavities, to support inner masonry leaf. In addition, this product is designed for use with 100mm bricks and blocks finishing at the same height of either 1, 2 or 3 brick courses depending on length, allowing the product to sit flush with the brickwork resulting in a smooth finish. This is further aided by the presence of multiple plaster key indentations on the different faces, aiding plaster to stick to the surface providing superior paint protection.
Energy efficiency and sustainability
The SB100 comes with the option to be transitioned into an insulated box lintel by adding factory fitted, BREEAM A+ insulation to help maintain indoor temperatures, making it an ideal internal wall lintel. The manufacturing of steel produces significantly less carbon emissions globally than concrete, making it an environmentally friendly option.
Fire performance
Tested using the BS 476:Part 20: 1987 standards, finishing with a two-coat layer of plaster provides this fire resistant lintel with a 60 minute fire rating, achieving compliance with building codes.
Birtley provides stronger, more resilient lintels finished to professional quality at an affordable price. The Birtley steel lintel catalogue manufactures in compliance with building codes and prioritises the safety of their consumers. Bringing innovative engineering to bear, reducing energy wastage and increasing thermal performance.
