MOT Type 1 is a high-quality, crushed stone aggregate designed as a compactable sub-base material for a wide range of construction and landscaping projects. It consists of a carefully graded blend of angular crushed rock,typically limestone or granite,combined with fines (stone dust) to fill voids between larger particles. This composition ensures excellent interlock when compacted, creating a rigid, load-bearing layer that resists settlement under heavy traffic.

When installed, MOT Type 1 is spread in 75 mm to 100 mm lifts and compacted with a plate vibrator or roller until the surface is uniformly firm. Its mix of coarse stones and fines also provides good permeability, allowing water to drain through the layer rather than pooling on the surface. For driveways and pathways, a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base offers a durable foundation for block paving, tarmac or concrete surfacing. In highway and road construction, it meets the requirements of BS EN 13242, guaranteeing consistent particle size distribution, strength and performance.
