Grano Dust 6mm – 25kg Bags & Bulk Bags

A clean, screened granite fines aggregate (typically 0–6mm) that compacts hard while staying permeable. Ideal as a firm, smooth blinding layer for block paving, porcelain/stone patios, gravel paths and artificial grass.

Pack sizes:

  • Grano Dust 25kg – handy bags for small areas and top-ups
  • Grano Dust Bulk Bag – great value for larger projects

Coverage (guideline at 50mm depth):

  • Bulk bag: ~8m²
  • 25kg bag: ~0.25m² (about 500 × 500mm)

Why choose grano dust?

  • Locks tight under compaction – angular particles interlock for a stable, even surface.
  • Permeable by design – helps surface water drain, reducing puddling and frost heave.
  • Consistent finish – screened fines give a smooth, level bed that’s kinder to porcelain edges than coarse aggregates.
  • Clean and low-mess – minimal oversized particles; easy to level and screed.

Typical uses

  • Blinding/levelling layer over a consolidated sub-base (e.g., Type 1) for block paving or porcelain/stone slabs.
  • Artificial grass bases – creates a stable, smooth upper layer before laying membrane and turf.
  • Pathways & seating areas – compact, tidy finish that still drains.

Practical note: use MOT Type 1 (or similar) for your primary sub-base, then apply grano dust as the top levelling/blinding layer. It’s not a substitute for the main load-bearing sub-base.

How to lay (quick guide)

  1. Prepare sub-base: Install and compact Type 1 to required depth and falls.
  2. Add grano dust: Spread to ~30–50mm (projects with porcelain often prefer the cleaner, tighter finish at ~30–40mm).
  3. Level & compact: Screed to level, lightly mist if dusty, then compact with a plate compactor.
  4. Final checks: Re-screed high spots, keep falls for drainage, then lay slabs/blocks/turf.

How much do I need?

  • At 50mm, allow 0.05m³ per m².
  • Bulk bag ≈ 8m²; Grano Dust 25kg ≈ 0.25m².
Add 5–10% for waste, edges and minor level corrections.

Specification

  • Material: Crushed granite fines
  • Grading: Typically 0–6mm (may vary slightly by source; fines-rich for tight compaction)
  • Finish: Clean, screened aggregate
  • Permeability: High (when not over-compacted to full closure)
  • Applications: Blinding/levelling layer; not a structural sub-base

How do I calculate how much grano dust I need?

Measure your area (m²) and decide on depth (e.g. 50 mm). As a guide, each tonne covers around 8m² at 50 mm. Round up to allow for compaction.

Disclaimer: This is only a rough guide and can vary from job to job.

Do I need a membrane underneath?

Not essential, but a permeable geotextile membrane will help prevent weeds and keep sub-base layers separate.

Can grano dust be used under artificial grass?

Yes, a compacted 50 mm layer provides a flat, well-draining base that supports synthetic turf.

What equipment do I need for compaction?

A plate compactor (minimum 100 kg) is recommended; spread in even layers and lightly dampen, then compact each layer until firm.

Will it wash away in heavy rain?

When properly compacted and edged (e.g., with kerbs or edgings), grano dust remains in place even under heavy rainfall.
