Easihold 5L Gravel Binder

Easihold 5L is a water-based gravel binder designed to lock loose decorative stones in place while maintaining permeability. It creates a stable, low-maintenance surface suitable for light foot traffic, garden paths, borders and decorative gravel areas.

Unlike traditional gravel resin systems used for resin bound gravel installations, Easihold is a single-component pour, spray or mix-in solution. It is designed for ease of use rather than heavy-duty structural performance.

What It Does

  • Binds loose gravel into a firm, stable surface
  • Reduces stone migration and rutting
  • Maintains natural drainage (SUDS compliant)
  • Enhances stone appearance with a subtle silk sheen
  • UV-resistant for outdoor durability

Coverage (5 Litres)

  • Pour-On: 6–8m²
  • Spray-On: 12–14m²
  • Mix-In: Treats approx. 6 x 25kg bags (1 part Easihold to 25 parts stone by volume)

For best results, two applications are recommended when using the Pour-On or Spray-On methods.

Application Methods

1. Mix-In (Strongest Method)

Mix thoroughly with clean, dry stone until evenly coated. Lay to a maximum bonded depth of 20mm onto a permeable, compacted base. Compact flat using a trowel or wooden planks. This method is recommended for areas receiving walking traffic.

2. Pour-On

Apply evenly using a watering can with a steady rose head. Allows good penetration through the gravel layer. Suitable for light foot traffic areas.

3. Spray-On

Apply using an airless sprayer. Provides larger coverage but reduced penetration. Best suited for decorative applications only.

Stone Size & Depth Guidelines

  • Rounded stones: 4–6mm
  • Angular aggregates: 4–20mm
  • Maximum effective bonding depth: 20mm

Aggregates outside these ranges may reduce bond strength due to limited contact points.

Weather & Drying Conditions

  • Minimum application temperature: 5°C
  • Requires 48–72 hours of warm, dry conditions
  • Avoid rain, dew, frost and humidity above 90% during curing

As Easihold is water-based, prolonged submersion (over 24 hours) may cause de-bonding.

Base Requirements

  • For light foot traffic: permeable, compacted stone base
  • For decorative use: any permeable surface

Important Limitations

  • Not suitable for driveways or vehicle traffic
  • Not designed as a structural alternative to resin bound gravel systems
  • Over-application can reduce performance

Typical Uses

  • Garden gravel paths
  • Decorative borders
  • Gravel around paving slabs
  • Tree surrounds
  • Gravel between stepping stones

Expected lifespan is typically 12–24 months depending on exposure and traffic levels. Surfaces can be topped up as required.

Is Easihold the same as resin bound gravel?

No. Easihold is a water-based gravel binder designed to stabilise loose decorative stone. It works by coating and bonding the surface layer of gravel to reduce movement while keeping the area permeable.

It is not the same as a resin bound gravel system. Resin bound installations use a two-part polyurethane resin mixed with aggregate and laid at greater depths to create a structurally robust surface suitable for heavier foot traffic, patios and driveways.

Easihold is intended for light foot traffic only, such as garden paths, borders and decorative areas. It should not be considered a structural alternative to resin bound gravel.

Can I use Easihold gravel binder on a driveway?

No. Easihold gravel binder is not suitable for driveways or any area subject to vehicle traffic.

It is designed to stabilise decorative gravel in pedestrian areas only. Vehicle loads introduce shear forces, turning stress and point loading that exceed the performance capability of a water-based gravel glue system.

For driveways, a properly installed resin bound gravel system using a heavy-duty polyurethane resin and suitable sub-base construction is required. Easihold is best used for paths, borders, tree surrounds and areas where stone migration needs to be controlled without creating a fully rigid surface.

What is the best way to apply gravel glue for a strong finish?

The strongest method of application is the mix-in method.

Mix Easihold thoroughly with clean, dry stone at approximately 1 part binder to 25 parts stone by volume. Ensure the aggregate is evenly coated but not saturated. Lay the treated stone onto a permeable, compacted base to a maximum bonded depth of 20mm.

Compact the surface flat using a trowel or wooden boards. A smooth, level finish improves durability under foot traffic, as protruding stones can create weak points.

Allow 48–72 hours of warm, dry conditions for curing. Avoid rain, frost, dew or humidity above 90% during the drying phase, as moisture can dilute the binder and reduce bond strength.
