Rockwool RWA45 Acoustic Insulation 50mm
Rockwool RWA45 50mm is a semi-rigid stone wool insulation slab designed for thermal, acoustic and fire performance in general building applications. With a nominal density of 45kg/m³ and a thermal conductivity of 0.035 W/mK, it is widely specified for internal partitions, separating floors, ceilings and roof constructions.
Part of the ROCKWOOL RW Slabs range, RWA45 is manufactured from volcanic rock and produced in accordance with BS EN 13162 for factory-made mineral wool insulation products.
Performance Characteristics
- Thermal conductivity (λ): 0.035 W/mK
- Thermal resistance (50mm): 1.43 m²K/W
- Density: 45kg/m³
- Reaction to fire: Euroclass A1 (non-combustible)
- High temperature resistance: Withstands temperatures above 1000°C
- Acoustic absorption: Non-directional fibre structure helps reduce airborne sound transmission
- Water vapour resistance: Vapour permeable
Acoustic Performance
The non-directional fibre orientation and density of ROCKWOOL stone wool help absorb sound waves and dampen vibrations. RWA45 is commonly installed within stud partitions and separating floors to assist in achieving the airborne sound insulation levels required under Approved Document E.
Fire Performance
Rockwool RWA45 achieves Euroclass A1 classification in accordance with EN 13501-1, meaning it is non-combustible. The material can resist temperatures in excess of 1000°C and contributes to fire resistance performance within tested wall and floor systems.
Durability & Moisture Performance
Independent testing has demonstrated that ROCKWOOL stone wool retains its thermal, mechanical and fire performance characteristics for at least 50 years. The material is vapour permeable, helping to reduce the risk of condensation build-up within constructions.
Rockwool stone wool insulation does not contain gases with Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) or Global Warming Potential (GWP) and has no hazardous classification under UK REACH regulations.

Building Regulations Considerations
When used within tested wall or floor constructions, Rockwool RWA45 can assist in meeting the requirements of:
- Approved Document E – Resistance to the passage of sound
- Approved Document B – Fire safety
- Approved Document L – Conservation of fuel and power (as part of a complete insulated build-up)
Compliance depends on the overall construction build-up, including plasterboard type, stud size, cavity depth and fixing method. Always refer to tested system data and project specifications.
