The SB100HD, designed to bear heavier loads than the standard SB100, is a quality mid-point steel solid wall lintel in the Birtley SB range. Commonly employed for more demanding roles than its predecessor, the SB100HD boasts thicker steel to provide reliable internal wall support and is a mainstay for supporting open plan floors and garages.

Materials

The Birtley SB range, distinct for its quality, features the heavy duty solid wall lintel for 100mm blockwork. Made from S275JR steel finished to a EN10025-2 standard, the SB100HD is treated with Birtleys super galv coating, providing excellent rust protection thus increasing the lintels lifespan. The resulting zinc coating ensures comprehensive protection on every surface.

Installation and usage

Designed for use with 100mm masonry, the SB100HD steel solid wall lintel is compatible with solid internal walls or supporting the inner masonry leaf. This lightweight lintel supports heavy loads and requires installation on brick laying mortar, with a minimum of 150mm end bearing. The lintels height aligns with two or three courses of bricks, depending on its length, ensuring it sits flush with brickwork for a smooth finish. Every surface features plaster key indentations, promoting first-class plaster adherence resulting in a polished finish, and leaving no surface with inferior protection.

Energy efficiency and sustainability

The SB range of solid wall box lintels can be upgraded with BREEAM A+ factory-fitted insulation, helping to maintain indoor temperatures. The manufacturing of steel produces significantly less carbon emissions in comparison to concrete coupled with steel’s recyclability and long life, it is widely considered the more sustainable option.

Fire performance

When finished with two coats of plaster, this internal wall lintel achieves 60 minutes of fire rating in compliance with building codes using the BS 476:Part 20: 1987 standards.
